Step 2 - Strategy
The Workplace Transformation Strategy sets the overall program goals and direction, and, defines the deliverables for all associated work streams. It is informed by the corporate strategy and is designed to provide ‘continuity of vision’ through all phases of the project. It serves as a guide to decision making, ensures the right problems are solved and determines the most efficient use of resources (time, people, money).
Critical to success is integrated program management, this is a master plan that synchronises all the subordinate work plans, mapping inter dependencies and ensuring co-terminus completion. This plan also maps the most efficient critical path across work plans to ensure the fastest possible completion time. Ideally all work plans are complete on the day before the new workplace goes live, on day 1 all construction should be complete; IT deployed, tested and working; and all employees should be familiar with any new processes or ways of working – our goal is to minimise disruption to business operations (target zero).
Activities in this phase typically include; quantitative space analysis and planning, leadership/employee interviews and workshops, real estate services, technical assessments, future ways of working, digital workplace, business case development, program planning and ongoing change management. The Lean Workplace Company have approximately 30 activities to select from within this phase in order to tailor a bespoke strategy to our clients needs. We may also identify areas during this phase that require specialist skills or advice, to this end we can use our network of specialists or coordinate the services of our clients preferred partners.
Talk to us about how we balance supply and demand during this phase. Once we have quantified waste, and understand potential value, we create a business case outlining return on investment - informing a go/no-go decision to proceed to phase 3 - program management.
